Our Virtual Golf Event on Saturday, August 15, was planned in lieu of our annual Mini Golf Event. Well, not exactly planned. As with so many events and gatherings this year, our original May event was not going to be able to happen so we postponed until August – with high hopes for an easing of the restrictions. That didn’t come to be, so a virtual event was developed via Facebook. And our Buzzy’s Bees people rose to the occasion in very fine fashion!
Three in-person (in mask) mini-mini-sites were set up – in Beaverton, Portland, and Seattle. Throughout the warm day 75 people participated, one family group at a time. There were many more who sported their Buzzy’s Bees gear or yellow and black who headed to local mini golf courses, regular courses, their backyards, or even their hallways. The Facebook Event was flooded with fun pictures of all these great friends of Buzzy’s in the Pacific Northwest and as far away as Pittsburgh, PA and Lincoln, Nebraska. We had 141 eligible for raffle entries and six winners.
In all, $3,324.11 was raised during the event, which was 166% of our goal! We have received additional generous gifts in the last couple of days as well. We are grateful and feel the love from the Buzzy’s hive.
All this buzzing is an encouragement to keep our mission top of mind. We are able to support families who are grieving the unexpected loss of a child because of the generosity of so many. These families are our heart. Each child was a light in their lives. As part of each annual golf event, we remember and speak their names. This year the following little ones were remembered by those who played in their memory or by reading their names at our event. They and their families are the reason for Buzzy’s Bees.
