Rethinking Stages of Grief
Grief has been with me for seven long years. It has taken a lot of unpacking and processing to sit where I do today. I recognized early in my grieving that it is about
We have large and small roles available in planning and executing our mission and various fundraising events.
Our golf committee produces a family-friendly golf tournament held on a spring weekend morning – usually early May. Past events have sold out, and those attending typically include families who have lost a child as well as Buzzy’s supporters. We hold those children in our hearts and honor them that day, alongside having a joyful occasion to be together as a community. Do you enjoy golf – miniature and/or full size? Have a gift for organizing parties? Like to plan and execute fundraisers? Have a network of potential sponsors you’d like to reach out to? We’d love to add you to our team! We start meeting in late January, mostly by phone/web conferencing and keep things light, fun, and organized. Join our committee at any time – we’re happy to have folks who are even just available for event day volunteering!
This committee works together to execute the goals of our Give Grief a Voice Project. We identify writers, artists, and families to participate in the project. We also reach out to grief support groups and social workers. In addition, the committee organizes the process for completing the interviews and artwork. Most of the writing and art work is produced in the winter/spring months, with the goal of having an art showing in early fall. We meet by phone/web conferencing approximately once a month and are seeking additional members to join us in the late spring/early summer to begin planning the art showing.
Our communications committee produces newsletters, social media content, and thank you letters to donors. This committee also works closely with our web developer on content. We could use some additional support with social media and would like to hear from you if you’re interested!
This newly established committee is focused on identifying and applying for grants. We are seeking organizations and institutions who offer grants for grief support programs, writing and the arts, and emerging local nonprofits. We would also like to explore the possibility of direct fundraising by reaching out directly to high net-worth donors. If you have ideas for this committee, or are interested in joining us, please reach out!
The financial strain put on families while grieving can be unpredictable and often astronomical. Our financial gift program is what Buzzy’s Bees was founded on – offering financial support to families experiencing hardship after the loss of their child. This committee reviews applications from families and comes to consensus on what to recommend to the board for approval. We would also like to explore additional avenues for reaching families in need of support. If you have an interest in joining us, please reach out.
Our finance committee meets quarterly. They write policies and procedures around donation acceptance and spending as well as prepare the quarterly accounting update for the board.
Buzzy’s Bees is recruiting up to two board members with expertise in finance, PR, fundraising, event management, program management and/or social services. The board meets four times a year in Portland or Seattle. We are a working board, so it is our hope that in addition to helping to develop/review policies and procedures and attending the four annual board meetings (in person or by phone), board members will contribute their professional expertise to the work of our committees as well as participate in at least one of our annual fundraisers.
Please reach out if you’d like to get involved! hello@buzzysbees.com
