Auntie to Paige Marie Webster, Katie, had learned about Buzzy’s Bees and applied for support on behalf of parents Amy Jacobs and Taylor Webster after losing her daughter, Paige, at just five days old. Amy’s pregnancy with Paige was uneventful and healthy, but Paige passed away after an unexpected and emergency medical issue found at birth. Below is Paige’s story as told by Amy:
I have wanted to be a mother my entire life. I was so excited for the arrival of Baby Paige and proudly documented every week on social media for my friends and family to follow. This pregnancy was very special to me as this was my rainbow baby after having suffered a miscarriage in Jan 2017.
At 36 weeks, after a busy day at work and not feeling much movement from Paige, I decided to call the advise nurse. She told me to go to labor and delivery as soon as possible so they could monitor baby Paige and I. After an ultrasound where Paige had very little movement and a lowered heart rate they decided to do an emergency c section. After Paige was delivered, an X-ray showed she had some kind of blockage in her bowels and was rushed to St. Vincent’s NICU for further evaluation. An ultrasound was done of her abdomen as soon as she arrived, the ultrasound showed there was no air or movement in her bowels. She was rushed into surgery were they discovered it was not a blockage but a twist in her bowels and it had cut off blood flow and air at the very top of her intestines. The surgery showed there were only a couple centimeters left of salvageable intestines and everything else had completely died. There was nothing that they could do to repair them. We were advised with the severity of her condition she would not survive. While they kept Paige comfortable with medications and treatment to keep the internal bleeding under control, we along with family we able to spend 5 special days with baby Paige before she passed away on Thursday January 17th around 2:45pm.
With time our hearts will heal slightly but the pain of losing our baby will never go away. We will forever be wondering what she might have grown to look like or what her first words might have been. She will forever be our beautiful guardian angel watching down on us!
